Kerch Historical and Archeological Museum – Museum of Antiquities was founded in 1826. The museum building is an architectural monument of the XIX century. There are some permanent and temporary exhibitions.
7 halls are opened for visitors, more than 4 thousand items, most of which are the discoveries of recent years, exhibited for the first time are presented in the exhibition. The maximum saturation of exhibition space creates a visual image of the ancient Bosporus – ancient tombstones, sculptures, painted pottery, ornaments made of wood and bone, coins, terracotta, plaster ornaments of sarcophagus, a wooden sarcophagus, samples of murals in the burial crypts.
A new site is the museum’s courtyard, where you can feel a connection of times – from antiquity to the Russian classicism with the exhibition “The household of the ancient Bosporus.” It is an almost real service yard, where some of the exhibits are functioning.
In the museum courtyard a pottery workshop is offered to visitors. They can join the excursion dedicated to the art of pottery and take part in workshops on sculpting and painting on wet clay.
