State Archives in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was created in 1919 as a central archive of Tauride. Since 1921, the Crimean Central Records Office with an archive. In 1926, during the Crimean central archive created two archives – Historical Archive and Archive of the October Revolution. In 1941, on the basis of two archives was created the Central Archives of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
During World War II most of the funds had been evacuated. During the occupation of Simferopol forces of Nazi Germany CSA activities of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was suspended. Reopened in April 1944 after the liberation of Simferopol. Since 1945, known as the State Archive of the Crimean region.
Until February 1954 the State Archive of the Crimean region was part of a system of archival institutions of the RSFSR. In connection with the transfer of the Crimean region of the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR archive logged in archival institutions of Ukraine.
The State Archive of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has about 7,000 funds over 1,400,000 items documents on paper, more than 4,500 units of account Cinedocuments, about 37,800 units of account of documentary photographs, nearly 600 units of account sound documents, video documents 169 units of account.
State Archives of the ARC provides implementation of state policy in the field of archives and records management. Provides persistent storage, protection, restoration, preservation of documents of the National Archival Fund of different material carriers of information and their dissemination.
