Museum of the History of Eltigen Landing (1943-1944) was opened in May 1985. Kerch – Eltigen amphibious operation – the beginning of the liberation of Kerch, was one of the largest amphibious assault during the Great Patriotic War.
Troopers were able to capture a small bridgehead of 3 km in length and 1.5 in depth called “Land of Fire” and to survive during 36 days of fighting in the complete blockade. Only 6 square kilometers of bridgehead, 40 days of fighting, 61defenders, awarded with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Military and historical monuments located in the neighborhood complete the museum – a site of World War II weapons, mass graves – places of mass burials, rare exceptional sites: a military hospital and an operating room of Eltigen paratroopers, a motorboat. The motorboat – a direct participant of “Fire” landing in 1943, was among the last to deliver wounded soldiers from the “Land of Fire”.
