Золотая кладовая.

“Golden Treasury” was opened for visitors on April 11, 2005. It displays over one thousand of valuable museum objects made of precious metals. The leading exhibit is a treasure of cyzikins dated back to the V century BC, discovered during the excavations of ancient settlement of Myrmekion. It is the only full treasure of cyzikins fallen into the hands of researchers. The treasure consists of 99 coins, decorated with images of gods, heroes, figures of animals and mythical creatures.

The numismatic section displays golden and silver coins of the local Bosporan mintage with the images of a griffin, that became the winged symbol of the modern Kerch, as well as coins of the great rulers – Alexander the Great and Mithridates VI Eupator.

There is a significant group of jewelry, which can rightly be attributed to the great works of ancient jewelry. Hryvnia and bracelets are exquisite decorations dated back to the IV century BC, complete sets of jewelry dated back to the first centuries AD, that include headwear, earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces, amulets, buckles, sewn patches, etc.

Carved stones gems, that played the role of amulets and talismans are widely represented in the exhibition. People believed in the magical power of stones, reinforced by the images carved in the stone.
